Familie T.

~Dorpje Villedeu les Poeles (heerlijke Salon du The - Le Jardin Samovar)
~Kliffenwandeling en bunkers WOII Arromanches
~ hamburgers eten in Vire

It is always disappointing to get a less than complimentary review such as this. Fair criticism you just have to take, apologise for and learn from. So yes, for reasons we don’t understand, the pool was not working when the guests arrived. We think a thunderstorm must have kicked out the circuit breaker, but we aren’t sure. But the guests also called out our pool man – which of course we have to pay for – complaining that the pool “wasn’t working” on another day, but he could find nothing wrong. Perhaps they thought that the pump should run 24/24 rather than for 6 hours a day, although this was explained to them. Cobwebs can and do appear overnight – it’s a farmhouse in rural France after all. Normally the house is cleaned immediately prior to the arrival of our guests, so there won’t be any on day 1, but they were the first guests of the season and on this occasion, the pre-season “deep clean” was carried out on the Monday before they arrived. This deep clean is carried out by a team of extremely diligent cleaners, is very thorough, expensive and took 12 working hours. The house has 7 rooms, three of which are bedrooms, which require little more than a good hoover and dust. So the kitchen and living room get most of the attention – several hours of effort. I have asked other people who came to the house between it being cleaned and the guests arriving and they cannot recall any smell other than polish. The TV was working both before and immediately after this rental, a fact that I ascertained personally. I can only surmise that the guests were not able to work out how to use it for some reason, although we provide a very detailed, step by step guide that all our previous guests have used without issue. It’s true that the stereo is not the latest technology and yes, it does accept tapes, but it also has a radio, plays CDs and has a Bluetooth adapter so you can link it to your smartphone. We deliberately don’t provide a list of restaurants, because opinion on what is good and what isn’t is so subjective and it is also very difficult to keep up to date. Tripadvisor or Google is a much better bet. And our folder of local (and not so local) things to do was just very recently praised by our Gite classification inspector (we are 3* and would have been 4* if our third bedroom was 0.5m2 bigger) as being the best he had seen; lots of information for adults and kids, right up to date and with free / promotional tickets for many attractions. But perhaps the most annoying thing about this review is that the guests didn’t tell anyone at the time about most of the things that they have subsequently complained about in their review. It is very unfair not to allow us the opportunity to fix these problems - which are bound to occur from time to time – but instead to write critical reviews after the event, reviews which have the potential to directly affect our lettings. Had they told us on day 1 that they thought the living room smelled “very much of dog”, I would have asked the cleaners to get in touch with them and arrange to come back one day when you they were out and re-clean it. If they had told us that the TV was “not working”, either I or our concierge could have told them what to do in a brief phone call. We make a point of telling our guests that there is an extensive support network and it is there to ensure that they enjoy their holiday to the utmost. Had they picked up the phone we could have sorted these issues out and they would have been better able to enjoy the amenities that La Sejannerie provides, and there would have been no need to write – in some cases, factually incorrect – negative comments. As far as their comments on the price /quality ratio are concerned, we regularly review prices for gites with similar accommodation and amenities in the area. Our prices are close to the average and judging by the comments we have received from other visitors, our quality is very much above it. Oh and they broke the bed.

We had a really nice stay this summer for two weeks. The conciërge Carrie, the tranquillity of the neighbourhood and the fine house made our holiday a perfect time to relax and enjoy with my family. The kids had a lot of fun in the pool with te bonus of perfect weather we had. Mont st Michel and the city of Grandville are places to recommend. Thanks to good care of mr Crossley and of course Carrie. We look back with nice memories.
